Our junior club provides coached sessions for 8-16 year olds. At the ages of 14 to 16 there is the option to train with both adults and juniors.
Juniors can enter events of their choice personal goals. The club gears training towards four main events in the season:
1. Donut Duathlon – a tarmac bike and run (25th March)
2. Torbay Triathlon – a pool swim, flat tarmac bike and multi terrain run (22nd April 18)
3. Torbay Autumn Triathlon – a pool swim, tarmac bike and multi terrain run (16th September)
4. Plymouth Aquathlon – a sea swim and tarmac hilly run (date not confirmed)
These junior events are Exeter Tri Club nominated club championships for 2018. We will present the winning male and female in each category and the nominated best ‘tri-er’, a trophy for the year.
Exeter Tri Club has junior sessions in all three disciplines. Each session is £3 which is paid on arrival.
We have four ability swim squads training every Saturday at Northbrook Pool. There are two sessions and two squads in each session. The starter squad requires an entry level of 100m continuous front crawl and Swim England Stage 8 award. To find out which squad to attend contact Pete: email@example.com
Open Water – We train between June and September, in the sea at Teignmouth.
At the beginning of each session is a compulsory briefing from Rob. Juniors must have their own wetsuit for this session. We provide brightly coloured swim hats and number band. After each session juniors return their hat and band so we know they are back safely. A lifeguard and at least one coach will be on the water with juniors.

Outside training – On Mondays we have junior bike training. During the summer months this is held at the driver raining centre, Westpoint, Exeter. These sessions are outside doing real riding, covering bike handling skills and transition practice. If the weather is bad we do bike maintenance. Juniors must bring their own serviceable bike and helmet to be able to do this session.
Indoor training – During the winter months we hold the bike sessions at Exeter arena. The winter sessions are undercover and out of the elements. Juniors train their balance skills and fitness on club rollers. A personal bike and helmet is necessary for this session.
Any ability is welcome at our bike sessions although bikes that are not safe will not be allowed and helmets really are compulsory.

Exeter Triathlon Club junior track sessions welcomes children of all abilities. The sessions are designed to develop running fitness and skills. The first half of the session runs with a mixture of warm up mobility exercises, running drills, sprint relays, hill reps, circuit and agility exercises. The second half of the sessions are combinations of different track distances – 200m, 400m and 600m, according to age and ability. Every 3 months we do a timed 1000m run to gauge progress. Our primary aim is to encourage and support children to enjoy exercise, have fun, and build their confidence. We are very flexible and recognise that children cannot make every session and have competing priorities so there is no expectation that children make every session, although inevitably it is often the regular attendees who make the most progress! The sessions are led by Charlie Sumner, Level 2 BTF coach assisted by other Level 1 and 2 coaches. New runners are welcome to have a test session to see if they enjoy it.

Parents are welcome to spectate from the benches at the side of pool, track or beach but we kindly request that you leave the coaching to the coaches. The club encourages parent ‘activators’. This has a qualification and allows parents to be formally involved with club sessions. The club will support anyone who would like to be more involved and will arrange for the DBS application. For more information on helping at junior sessions contact Pete: firstname.lastname@example.org
Our qualified coaches hold BTF Level 1 to level 3 triathlon and IOS level 2 open water swim between them. All coaches are DBS and first aid trained.
