Social Calendar 2018

Exeter Triathlon Club prides itself on achieving the perfect ‘training-life’ balance which is why the social calendar is equal to, if not more important, than any training schedule. Will a training schedule sign you up to ridiculous races after a few too many whisky sour’s? Check your hangover levels mid-way through the worst cycle ride of your life? Message to say what a great time they had with you at the ETC social?

The events are a chance to cast aside the Lycra and meet others in the club with whom you can discuss the merits of compression clothing, changing robes and saddle comfort without being judged. Much. They also provide the perfect excuse to reap the rewards of training/racing by indulging in eating, drinking and making merry.  This year’s diary has some familiar events, due to previous years’ successes and a few new contenders. It is by no means an exhaustive list so keep an eye on the website and Facebook page for more events. Similarly, please email with any other thoughts (ideally to do with social occasions), particularly for later in the year.

The events are mostly based in and around Exeter and where possible, avoid training sessions and more popular races. All members are welcome at the socials, as are potential club members and partners (try not to get the latter two mixed up). Some of the events are family activities where children are also welcome.

Most of the events require either an email to express interest or the parting of cash in order to secure a space. For those events, specific details will be released closer to the time. For any queries please email me at:

Pub Quiz at The Fat Pig, Exeter.

Monday 5th March, 7.30pm

We return to retain last year’s title (as the team who attend once a year and win) and the £50 cash prize.

Email: to reserve your space.

The Bike Shed, Exeter

Friday 23rd March 2018, from 7.30pm

To mark the sad occasion of this fabulous bar closing, we have reserved spaces for the evening. Doubtless there will be music (of many different eras), food, drinks (to suit all) and probably a smattering of dancing. It would be rude not to.

Email: to reserve your space.

Harry’s Restaurant

Friday 20th April, 8.00pm.

Dinner at Harry’s Restaurant, Exeter where we will have exclusive use of one of their dining rooms. Set menu ranging from £18-28 (menus to follow).

We are returning to this great restaurant following an excellent evening last year. It’s bound to be popular and spaces are limited so please email if you’d like a seat (or two).

Sea Swim and Barbecue, Budleigh Salterton

Monday 7th May, 11.00am.

Spring Bank Holiday celebrations on the beach…how very British.

Just turn up with a barbecue, something to cook for lunch and a sense of foreboding.

The swim will last approximately 30 seconds followed by a lunch of approximately three hours.

Adults, children, dogs, owners of marquees with outdoor heaters all welcome.

(Please note this will be an unsupervised sea swim).

Exe Valley Triathlon and post-tri lunch

Sunday 13th May.

Details to follow.

All welcome.

Run Exe Relays

Friday 15th June (provisional date), evening.

Fantastic evening guaranteed.

The club will be putting together teams for this event and making it one of the big social occasions of 2018. Racers and non-racers welcome to come along! Further details to follow.

Chippy Chuesday

Sea swimming (in Teignmouth) starts in June and it seems fitting to have chips after the first swim…even if it’s not the right date! After that, Chippy Chuesday takes place on the last Tuesday of each month.

Becky’s Ride

Sunday 5th August a.m.

Save the date: further details to follow.
